Illinois District Hires Former Plymouth-Canton Superintendent Fiegel
Craig Fiegel will take over Mascoutah District #19 in Mascoutah, IL.
Former Plymouth-Canton Community Schools superintendent Craig Fiegel has been hired by Mascoutah District #19 in Mascoutah, IL, according to a report by Herald Publications.
Plymouth-Canton denied Fiegel's contract extension in September 2010 in a 4-3 vote.
Fiegel, who came to Plymouth-Canton in 2008, discussed his experience with the district and his departure in an October 2010 interview with Plymouth Patch:
"I've reflected on what I've done, and I would do some things differently probably," he said. "Did I listen enough? One of the things I tried to do when I first started was create a positive culture, including in the board. I tried to influence how they operated, but maybe I didn't do that as well as I could have, strategically."
Fiegel previously was a finalist for a post in Salina, KS. At Mascoutah District #19, Fiegel will replace Sam McGowen, who is retiring, the report said.
The Herald Publications report characterized Plymouth-Canton as "a high-performing suburban district that has been recognized for academic achievement and had a graduation rate of 94 percent last year."
Prior to working with Plymouth-Canton, Fiegel was superintendent of the Evergreen Park Elementary District in Evergreen Park, IL, with 2,000 students, from 1999-2008, the report said.

Congratulations to a talented Superintendent who endured the antics of 4 ignorant board members, with grace and dignity. We wish you much success in the future.
